GFYE 0098 – Gordon College First Year Experience

Graduated Learning Plan*

Fall 2009

This assignment asks you to construct a road map of your college career leading up to the beginnings of your professional career.  In completing this assignment, you will need to utilize resources available to you via the Gordon College Catalogue, internet and library research, and consultation with your academic advisor.

Your Graduated Learning Plan will consist of the following completed steps:

I. Identify a potential major: Identify and reflect upon a subject area that interests you and which you might/will pursue as your academic focus and career goal.  What about the subject interests you?  What do you imagine a person majoring in that field will encounter through their studies?  (1 page)

II. Associate’s Degree Core Curriculum for Gordon College major: You will fill out a plan of courses which will earn you an A.A./A.S. degree in a particular major offered by Gordon College according to the core curriculum outline of 64 credits completed. Indicate what classes you would prefer to take. You can refer to the information in the Gordon 2009-2010 online academic catalog (http://www.gdn.edu/admissions/catalog/09-10.asp). You will find core curriculum areas listed at http://www.gdn.edu/admissions/catalog/corecurriculum.asp. You will then need to find your major preference under the Area F section. You can also find degree requirements and worksheets for most majors under the division links at http://www.gdn.edu/departments/. (1 page)

III. Identification of three Bachelor’s programs to which you might apply: You will identify three different institutions offering the major you wish to pursue for your B.A. degree, explaining in two or three paragraphs for each why you would wish to attend that institution. (2 or 3 pages)

IV. Bachelor’s Degree Core Curriculum for chosen four-year program: You will examine the program guidelines to one of your “target institutions” and fill out a plan of courses which will earn you a B.A./B.S. from that program, 64 additional credits arranged according to institutional curriculum guidelines. Here is a link to Clayton States Academic Catalog for an example: http://publications.clayton.edu/catalog/. (1 or 2 pages)

V. Reflection on career paths enabled by completion of target degree: You will investigate three distinct career paths that someone in your field of study might choose to follow upon graduation from college.  Devote a page to each consideration.  (3 pages)

This assignment must be typed and is due in class on December 7, 2009.  It is worth 25% of your final grade.
