Short Fiction
Content
- Write
a work of short fiction. Make
appropriate use of all the concepts and techniques we have discussed so
far. Above all, remember to show as you tell.
- You
will be graded on your ability to appropriately apply the skills and
techniques associated with image, voice, character, setting, plot, scene
and summary, backstory and flashback, text and
subtext, conflict, crisis, and resolution.
- Read
your story aloud before you hand it in. Does it sound correct to you?
- You may
be asked to read your story aloud to the class on the day that it is due.
I and your fellow students will ask you questions about how you went about
composing it, so come to class prepared to talk about it.
Format
- Your essay
should be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 2000 words
- You
must type your essay in Times 12 font.
- Double
space your essay and number each page.
- Type
your name, a title for your essay, and the number of words in your essay
in the upper right hand corner of your first page.
Conferences and Due Dates
- Optional
individual conference to discuss your essay with your professor will be
held during our class period on Thursday, Apr. 10; if you wish to see your
professor for a conference, stop by his office in Fine Arts 127 either
during your class period or during his office hours.
- The essay is due in class and
on turnitin on Tuesday, Apr. 15.
- You
must both submit your essay to turnitin.com and bring a printed
copy to class.
