Information for Pre-Physical Therapy Students

When completed successfully, the Physical Therapy major at Gordon College will give you an Associates of Science (A.S.) degree and a good background in the subjects that will support your later studies in physical therapy.  To pursue a career as a physical therapist, you will need to go on to complete a bachelor's degree,* successfully compete for admission to a physical therapy school, complete that school's physical therapy program requirements, and pass a state licensure exam.  At that point you will be able to practice physical therapy in a variety of settings, including hospitals and private practice.  Several universities in Georgia offer programs in physical therapy and related studies.  These programs vary slightly, but most are now granting doctoral degrees.  The doctoral degree (Doctor of Physical Therapy, or DPT) is quickly becoming the entry-level degree for the profession.

*The specific major is not necessarily important, but a science major (such as biology) will allow you to finish the appropriate science coursework and have it count toward your bachelor’s degree.
