- Q: What is the Gordon College Federal School Code?
The Gordon College Federal School Code is 001575. This information
will be needed by students completing the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Q: How will I know which aid year is appropriate for the forms I need to complete?
If you are planning to attend school during the spring semester of 2010
(January 2010 - May 2010), and/or the summer semester of 2010
(June 2010 - July 2010), you will need to complete the appropriate
forms desingnated for the 2009-2010 aid year.
If you are planning to attend school for the fall semester of 2010
(August 2010 - December 2010), the spring semester of 2011
(January 2011 - May 2011), or the summer semester of 2011
(June 2011 - July 2011), you will need to complete the appropriate
forms desingnated for the 2010-2011aid year.
- Q: What if I am awarded HOPE on a preliminary basis?
If the Gordon College Financial Aid Office awards HOPE on a
preliminary basis to students reported as preliminary HOPE scholars
during the last semester of their senior year of high school, and a
student is reported as ineligible on the final HOPE eligibility list after
graduation, the preliminary HOPE award will be removed from the
student's financial aid record and the student will be responsible for
any charges that would have been covered by the HOPE scholarship.
- Q: Do courses taken at other Colleges count for HOPE Scholarship limits at Gordon?
Yes. All courses that are considered degree level courses that were
taken at any post-secondary school (including those outside the state
of Georgia) count as both attempted and earned hours (if a student
received credit for them) when calculating a student's HOPE eligibility
status.
- Q: Do I have to reapply for financial aid every year?
Yes. If you fill out the FAFSA, you must reapply for financial aid every
year. The only exception to this rule is the GSFAPPS electronic
application. You are not required to fill out the GSFAPPS
electronic application every year.
- Q: Does Financial Aid Transfer between schools?
No. A student must apply for financial aid at the school he or she will be attending.
- Q: How do I know if my documents have been received?
You can view your award status in your Banner Web for Students
Account. After logging in, you will be directed to a screen with
information concerning the Georgia HOPE Scholarship program. Once
you have made your selection here, you will be directed to the Student
Services and Financial Aid Page. Once here, click on the "Student
Services & Financial Aid" link. Next, clik on the "Financial Aid" Link.
This is the fourth link from the top of the page. Next, select "My
Eligibility". Next, select the "Student Requirements" link. The information
you need to know will be displayed here.
- Q: How does a Gordon student get HOPE for transient study at another school?
If you are eligible for the HOPE scholarship at Gordon College and wish
to be reviewed for payment as a transient student, you must complete
the following steps:
(1) Complete the Transient Student Form. This form is located on the
Gordon Financial Aid Web Page. You can select "Transient Student"
under Types of Students and then click on the Transient Student Form
link near the bottom of the page.
(2) Receive permission to study as a transient student at another
institution from the Gordon College Registrar.
Please Note: In many cases, the request for HOPE transient permission
cannot be completed prior to the beginning of the new quarter of
semester at the host institution. Because of this, most transient
students need to be prepared to pay all of their expenses at the host
institution in order to prevent their classes from being dropped. They
will also need to check with the host institution concerning the
institution’s refund policy in regard to HOPE reimbursement.
- Q: How will I know when I have been awarded financial aid?
You can view your award status in your Banner Web for Students
Account. After logging in, you will be directed to a screen with
information concerning the Georgia HOPE Scholarship program. Once
you have made your selection here, you will be directed to the Student
Services and Financial Aid Page. Once here, click on the "Student
Services & Financial Aid" link. Next, clik on the "Financial Aid" Link.
This is the fourth link from the top of the page. Next, select "My Award
Information". You now can select from five menu options. You can
now view your award status under both the "Award By Aid Year"
and "Award Payment Schedule" links.
- Q: If I am a transient student coming to Gordon, can I get HOPE?
The only type of financial aid that is available to transient students
attending Gordon College is the HOPE scholarship. If you are interested
in attending Gordon as a transient student and are eligible for the HOPE
scholarship at your current institution, you may be eligible to receive
payment for your classes at Gordon through the HOPE scholarship
program.
In order to determine your eligibility for payment, you must have the
Financial Aid Office at your current institution submit a HOPE
Scholarship Eligibility Certificate for Transient Study to the Gordon
College Financial Aid Office. This document will inform the Gordon
College Financial Aid Office of your HOPE scholarship eligibility status.
The Gordon College Financial Aid Office will not award your HOPE
Scholarship funds until this document is received and your eligibility is
verified.
- Q: What happens when I withdraw from a class or classes?
If you withdraw from a class or classes after the drop add period, but
do not totally withdraw, the hours you drop will count as attempted
hours for financial aid purposes. Unless the class or classes you
drop are removed from your record (which usually does not happen
after the drop/add period ends) your financial aid award will not be
adjusted which means you will not be required to pay an money back
to Gordon College. However, this could result in your losing your
financail aid eligibility in the future. For more information on this, refer to
the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy on our website.
The hours also count toward the HOPE checkpoints. Hope is based on
attempted hours, not earned hours. When you withdraw after the drop
add period, the hour(s) count as attempted hours toward the hope
checkpoints.
If you totally withdraw from school (after the semester has begun) and
received financial aid during that semester, you may owe some money
back to either Gordon College and/or the appropriate federal or state
agency.
- Q: What is a 30 day loan delay?
All first time loan receipeints who have earned less than 30 semester
hours are required to wait 30 days from the beginning of their first
semester of enrollment before their loan proceeds are released. This
provision also applies to a student who is enrolled for his or her first
semester at Gordon and has not had a previous loan and has not
earned 30 semester hours.
A student that is awarded a loan and has this requirement will not have
access to these funds before most payment deadlines. Sincee these
funds will not be available at the time of the initial disbursement for a
semester, a student will need to be prepared to pay any balance
due by the final payment deadline, and will be reimbursed at the time
the loan is received.
