LEARNING SUPPORT
- To apply for grants, loans, or part-time employment opportunities through the Federal Work Study program, students must complete the appropriate Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If a student is planning on enrolling at Gordon College in January of 2010 (Spring 2010 semester) or June/July of 2010 (Summer 2010 semester) he or she will have to complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA. If a student is planning on enrolling at Gordon College in August of 2010 (Fall 2010 semester), January of 2011 (Spring 2011 semester) or June/July of 2011 (Summer 2011 semester) he or she will have to complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA. The FASFA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1st of each year. Students wishing to receive only the HOPE scholarship may apply for this by completing the GSFAPPS application at www.gacollege411.org. Please visit this website for information regarding how to qualify for the HOPE scholarship. Students who complete the FAFSA are not required to do a separate application for the HOPE scholarship. Students must also complete other forms and/or applications as required by the Gordon College Financial Aid Office.
- For financial aid purposes, students enrolled in 12 or more hours are classified as enrolled full time; students enrolled in 9-11 semester hours are classified as enrolled three-quarter time; students enrolled in 6-8 semester hours are classified as enrolled half-time; students enrolled in 1-5 semester hours are classified as enrolled less than half time. Loans require a minimum of half time enrollment. Other financial aid can be pro-rated if students are not enrolled full time.
- Financial aid is limited to course work required for the declared major. Financial aid is not available for audit courses.
- Students cannot use one-credit applied music courses to meet full-time (12 or more hours) status to receive full financial aid.
- Any financial assistance a student expects to receive from any outside source must be reported to the Financial Aid Office. This includes scholarships, grants, loans, and veteran's benefits. The receipt of additional aid may result in the reduction or cancellation of existing financial aid awards.
- A student cannot receive federal financial aid (such as the Pell grant and student loans) at more than one school during the same enrollment period.
- Gordon College does not utilize consortium agreements for federal financial aid. This means that you will not be able to receive any federal aid (such as the Pell grant or student loans) if you are attending Gordon College as a transient student from another school, or planning to attend another school as a transient student from Gordon.
- Students who pre-register for classes should note the payment deadline provided with their registration materials.
- Some students do not receive enough financial aid to cover all of their expenses. Students should be prepared to pay some of their expenses (if necessary) by the payment deadline in order to prevent their schedule from being dropped.
- To receive financial aid, a student must: (1) be enrolled at the College; (2) maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress according to the standards of the College; (3) not owe a refund on any grant or be in default on any educational loan; and (4) not have borrowed in excess of the loan limits under the Title IV programs at any institution.
- Learning support classes count in the HOPE GPA and/or attempted hour calculation(s) as well as the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) GPA and/or attempted hour calculation.
- Only the first 30 semester hours of Learning Support course work attempted will be considered in determining aid eligibility.
- The hours associated with Learning Support Courses that are assigned a grade of "IP" will count as attempted hours toward the HOPE and SAP GPA and/or attempted hour calculations.
- Financial Aid funds are disbursed to student accounts on a date designated by the Gordon College Business Office. The only exception to this is in regards to students who have a 30 day delay requirement attached to their loan (see explanation below). Any excess funds due to students in the form of a refund will be placed on the Higher One Card. This card is mailed to every Gordon student approximately two weeks after he or she initially registers for classes.
- Students interested in receiving a student loan must complete the online loan application on the Financial Aid home page of the Gordon College website. Parent's interested in completing a Plus loan application must also complete the PLUS application on the Financial Aid website.
- Please note the following Federal Stafford Loan Policies:
- You must be registered for at least 6 hours to receive a student loan.
- There is a 30-Day delay for all first-time borrowers. The first loan disbursement cannot be released until 30 days after the first day of class. This means that a student who is subjected to this clause should be prepared to pay any expenses that are not covered by other financial aid awards.
- You must meet all standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) before any funds are posted to your account or reimbursed to you via the Higher One Card.
- Refer to the Gordon College Federal Stafford Loan Request for further information.
