Gordon College Alumni are invited to drop by the newly renovated Alumni House on Stafford Avenue, just behind the IC building, during Buggy Days.
"We are excited about the beautiful improvements that have been made to the house and look forward to our alumni seeing 'their' special gathering place," said Lynn Yates, coordinator of Alumni Affairs. "It will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday."
The annual Alumni Magazine will also be available that weekend. This year's edition features stories on the proposed Memorial Plaza, librarian Nancy Anderson, alumnus Danks Seel, and Harold Matthews' memories of the A & M School.
The Alumni House was purchased by the Gordon College Foundation in 2005 and includes an expanded kitchen and food preparation area, a dining room, living room and sitting room. The rear of the house features a large deck and patio area that includes a food service area, enclosed restrooms and parking on the lower level behind the house. The Gordon Military High School Class of 1956 raised funds towards furnishing the house.
"This is going to be perfect for casual meetings and entertaining," said Yates. "The deck is especially beautiful and will be a lovely, casual gathering place."
The house also features an apartment connected to the main house via a breezeway. The apartment will be used by a guest or dignitary staying overnight.
Yates anticipates moving her office into the Alumni House during the year. The additional offices upstairs will also be occupied eventually.
"Drop by and take a look at the house," Yates said. "We'll have cold water to help you cool off from your Buggy Days activities. Maybe you'll see an old friend or two."
A ribbon-cutting and dedication will be held later in the fall.
