Douglas, 37, comes to Gordon from the Alcohol & Tobacco Division of the Georgia Department of Revenue where he most recently was assistant chief of operations. Prior to his 11 years at Revenue, he was with the Georgia Southern University Police Department where he served as lieutenant of criminal investigations and before that, a sergeant with the Statesboro Police Department.
He is originally from Mount Vernon in southeast Georgia and is the son of Steve and Gloria Douglas.
"I'm excited about being back in a college setting," said Douglas. "This is actually a small city of 4,000 and you get to really practice community policing. I look forward to getting to know the staff, faculty and especially the students here."
Douglas lives in Henry County with his wife, Jennifer, and young son, Spencer. In December Douglas will receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management and will immediately begin work on a Master's Degree in Public Administration through Columbus State University's Command College Program.
"Shawn is an excellent addition to our staff," said Jerry Turner, vice president of finance and administration, the division that oversees public safety. "The safety of our students, staff and faculty is vital to us. Shawn, and the other members of the public safety department, will help us maintain a campus environment that is not only safe but comfortable."
