Gordon College announced the establishment of the Cy Neuner Faculty and Staff Enrichment Fund during Commencement exercises held May 12.
Calling Cy ?a faithful friend,? Gordon College Foundation President Peter Banks praised the late Cyrus Neuner?s long support of Gordon College.
?It seems strange not to see Cy sitting to my left with the trustees,? noted Banks, just before he recognized the members of the Neuner family who were in attendance. They included Cy?s widow, Kebie, and their children Sam, Sandra, and Don, as well as several grandchildren.
The fund, which is not yet fully endowed, will provide support for faculty and staff training and professional development. Banks called the fund a fitting tribute because Neuner valued education. The enrichment fund was one of several initiatives President Larry Weill sought in Gordon?s change from a two-year school to a four-year institution.
?If we are to keep our reputation for excellence then we must find ways to support our faculty and staff to continuously improve their teaching and support of students. Participation in professional conferences and learning experiences are vital to that end,? said Weill. ?I am extremely pleased that we are able to establish this fund. All of us who knew Cyrus knew how happy he was about Gordon being granted four-year status.?
The College will continue to accept donations to the Cy Neuner fund through the Gordon College Foundation at 419 College Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204. All contributions are tax-deductible.
