Day Two: Goodbye Las Vegas, Hello St. George

5. 16. 2012 - Softball

It was hard to get up and around this morning after a long day of travel. I think it's even more difficult for some of us to remember what day it actually is. Since we left, we have hit every time zone and today we will travel through three states on our way to St. George, Utah. The sun came early but the team was ready to hit the road and had only one thing on their mind. FOOD! As you can imagine, our travel plans really created a problem with our normal dining hours.

District Tourney Next For Highlanders

5. 15. 2012 - Baseball

An incredible run came to an end Tuesday as Gordon College fell 7 - 6 to Middle Geogia in the finals of the GCAA Region Tournament. The Highlanders put up three unearned runs to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning and had another opportunity to win the game in the 10th with bases loaded. However, GC does not leave empty handed as they now advance to the East Central District Tournament in Cochran, Georgia, and will face Walters State (TN) on Friday. The winner of the three-day tournament advances to the College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Go Highlanders!

Day One: Leaving On A Jet Plane!

5. 14. 2012 - Softball

The Gordon College softball team got one more practice in Monday before they boarded a bus headed to the Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta. The final destination is the NJCAA Division I Women's Softball College World Series in St. George, Utah. The squad left from campus at 3:30 p.m. and arrived in Atlanta with plenty of time to spare for their 7:38 p.m. departure to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yes, you heard that right! Milwaukee was the first leg of our journey aboard AirTran Airways. However, I'm not sure about some of these connections.

Baseball Reaches Region Finals

5. 14. 2012 - Baseball

There was no room for error as the Gordon College baseball team had to win both games on Monday to advance to the region finals. The Highlanders accepted the challenge and did just that as they dropped South Georgia 16 - 7 in the GCAA Region Tournament in Covington. GC returned to the diamond and eliminated Georgia Perimeter 6 - 4 to secure a spot in Tuesday's championship game at noon. Gordon College must beat Middle Georgia twice to claim the region title. Regardless of the outcome, GC has qualified for the District Tournament next weekend with a berth to the College World Series on the line.

The Buccaneers bring an impressive 49 - 8 overall record to the tournament while GC is 37 - 17 on the year. Gordon College is making their first trip to the College World Series and will leave Monday afternoon from campus to begin their quest for a national title. Good Luck!

UPDATE: No Baseball Until Monday

5. 13. 2012 - Baseball

Wet conditions played havoc with Sunday's GCAA Region Baseball Tournament. The games had been pushed back to 6 p.m. but they've now been moved to Monday. The winner's bracket game between Middle Georgia and GPC will take place at noon while Gordon's contest with South Georgia will begin forty-five minutes after the conclusion of Game One. The Highlanders must win to stay alive and would have to play another game on Monday if they defeat the Tigers.

Baseball Tourney In Rain Delay

5. 12. 2012 - Baseball

Sunday games for the GCAA Region Baseball Tournament are in a holding pattern due to rain. Currently, the Middle Georgia and GPC contest scheduled for noon today has been shifted to 3 p.m. while Gordon College's game with South Georgia would follow shortly afterwards. However, this all depends on the weather and field conditions in Covington. Updates will be made later this afternoon and posted on the athletic website. Stay tuned!

Weather May Impact Sunday's Rematch

5. 12. 2012 - Baseball

Sunday's opponent has been determined as South Georgia eliminated Darton College 3 - 2 in the final game of Saturday's GCAA Region Tournament action. However, the rematch between Gordon College and South Georgia may be impacted by the weather. The teams are set to play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on Georgia Perimeter College's Newton campus in Covington. The winner advances to the 7 p.m. contest while the loser ends their season. Updates will be made to the athletic website if weather poses a problem for Sunday's tournament games.
