Switching Between PC and Elmo/VCR/Laser Disc

The projector is setup to display video output from either the PC or the Elmo. You select which video to display by using the Projector remote. To display PC video, press the Data1 button. To display Elmo video, press the Video1 button.

The Elmo acts as an audio/video "switch" for the Elmo, VCR, and Laser Disc. This means that the Elmo's video output is from either its internal camera, the VCR or the Laser Disc. To choose what video is being sent to the projector, you use the buttons on the front of the Elmo. They are labeled ELMO, VCR, and LASER DISC respectively.

Controlling/Mixing Audio Output

The audio amp/mixer is setup to output the audio of the mic, PC, and Elmo/VCR/Laser Disc all at the same time. This allows you to speak into the mic while audio from the PC or video is being played. This also means that any PC audio will be sent to the amp while the VCR or Laser Disc is playing. You should be careful of this if playing a video for your class and using the PC while the video is playing. Using the knobs labeled Mic, PC or Video controls individual audio volume. Using the knob labeled Master controls master volume.

Using the Wireless RF Mouse

The remote labeled "Mouse" is a wireless Radio Frequency mouse. Being RF and not infrared means that it does not need to be pointed toward the PC or receiving device. It also has a larger operating area and can be used from the back of the largest room. The large round "button" on the mouse is a thumb controlled mouse pad much like those found on laptop computers. The "trigger" button on the remote acts as the left mouse button. For some strange reason, the small rectangular button just above and to the left of the thumb control is the right mouse button. The small rectangular button just above and to the right of the thumb control is another left mouse button. The buttons labeled 1 through 4 are special action buttons that perform the following:

  1. Special options. See Mouse Manual in Computer Services for details.
  2. Blacks out PC screen. Pressing any button cancels black out mode.
  3. Zooms PC screen. Using thumb control causes screen to scroll since entire screen cannot be displayed in Zoom mode. Pressing any button cancels Zoom mode.
  4. Special options. See Mouse Manual in Computer Services for details.

The small rectangular button directly above the thumb control is a typical laser pointer.

Shutting Down Equipment

  1. Perform normal SHUT DOWN on PC.
  2. Remove any VCR tapes or Laser Discs in players.
  3. Turn off the podium's master switch behind the right-hand side vertical door.
  4. Raise screen using SCREEN control on wall behind podium. CAUTION: try to stop the screen before it clears the light over the white board. It is best to stop it where the bottom of the screen in resting against the front side of the light. This prevents the screen from hanging on the light and being damaged. To stop the screen, place the SCREEN switch in the middle position.
