Q: Does Gordon College offer its students health insurance? Is it mandatory?
A: The University System of Georgia has partnered with insurance company Pearce & Pearce to offer health insurance to all USG students. There are two types of plans - mandatory and voluntary. All nursing students and some international students fall under the mandatory plan and must be insured. Mandatory insurance charges $379 for fall and $565 including rider for summer/spring will appear on student bills unless a waiver is obtained by the affected students. Waivers will be granted if students already have health insurance that meets Pearce & Pearce's criteria. Voluntary plans may be obtained by any Gordon College student and may include coverage for dependents.

The Board of Regents has recently had many inquiries regarding the current student health insurance plan; reservations have been expressed about the higher out-of-pocket maximums now in place. In response to these concerns, we have diligently worked with Pearce & Pearce to put in place a new rider to be added to the 2009/2010 mandatory plans.

Reduce out-of-pocket maximum from $10,000.00 to $5,000.00
Cost: $57.00 per insured.

The rider will be applicable to all mandatory students who are enrolled for the 2009/2010 academic year (Fall and Spring/Summer) and students who enroll in Spring/Summer semester only. Unfortunately it is not available to the students enrolled in only the 2009 Fall semester.

To learn more about the insurance plans and to apply for a mandatory insurance waiver, visit the Gordon College portion of the Pearce & Pearce website by clicking the link below.
