• Do I have Internet service in my dorm room?

YES. All computers at Gordon College are connected to a high-speed network that give students, faculty, and staff access to computing services such as the Internet, e-mail, etc. If you own a personal computer and are living in one of our residence halls, you CAN connect your computer to our high-speed network and use the Internet free of charge! No modem will be needed. All you need is a Ethernet card built into your computer and a Cat-5 ethernet cable to connect to the jack in your wall.

User Authentication...

Students using any part of the campus network, including Internet, must be authenticated. Authentication simply means that you will need to provide your Gordon network username and password in order to access online resources. From your personal computer, when you open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc. and your network settings are configured properly; you will be automatically redirected to the Gordon network logon screen (see example screen). Only the Gordon College web site can be accessed without logging on.

Username...

1. You will need to know your Gordon network username to logon to the Internet from your personal computer. You likely have already obtained your username by accessing your e-mail account online or if you have logged onto a Gordon computer...If not, you can lookup your username online by going to the http://www.gdn.edu/privacy/ web site and clicking on 'Lookup My GCID#' from the left-side menu on the screen.
2. Within the smaller pop-up window, enter your last name, date of birth, and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number in the text boxes provided and press the 'Lookup' button
3. Your username will be printed next to the bold heading NETWORK / GeorgiaVIEW USERNAME. Remember this username!

Password...

If you have NOT already, you will need to reset your password at least once before you will be allowed to access the Internet. To create a new password follow the steps provided below...

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ALREADY CHANGED YOUR PASSWORD TO ACCESS YOUR
E-MAIL ACCOUNT OR LOGGED ON TO A GORDON COMPUTER, YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD. YOU WILL USE THE PASSWORD YOU PREVIOUSLY CREATED.

1. From http://www.gdn.edu/departments/computerservices/email.asp, click on 'Network Password Reset' located near the center of the page.
2. Once the pop-up window appears enter your username in the text box provided and press the 'Submit' button. This is the username that you recorded by following the Username Lookup instructions detailed above.
3. Once the next screen appears, answer the security question and then enter a new password in the text boxes provided. Make sure your new password conforms to the complex password standards detailed in the left column of the Network Password Reset pop-up window. Click 'Submit Reset'.
4. You should see a message indicating that your password was reset successfully, if not, try again. Once your new password is created, you can now use your username and new password to access the Internet.
