INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ORIENTATION
• What type of computer do I need to be able to access the internet at Gordon?
Computers are an integral part of the Gordon College experience. However, it is not required to have your own personal computer at Gordon. There are many computer facilities on campus that students can use. Most students would agree that having your own computer is more convenient and should be considered before attending college. Most computers purchased within the last few years can easily connect to the Internet at Gordon. Below are some general guidelines to follow to ensure that your computer (or a computer that you plan to purchase) will connect to the campus network....
Residence Halls (Direct-Wired Internet)
- Microsoft Windows Vista or XP Operating System preferred
- An Ethernet Network Card installed in your computer. (These can be purchased at a computer store and usually come pre-packaged with computers purchased from most vendors. NOTE: This is not the same hardware as a standard telephone-line based MODEM)
- Cat-5 Ethernet Patch cable
- Updated Anti-virus and Anti-Spyware Software
Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi)
- Microsoft Windows Vista or XP Operating System preferred
- Wireless Adapter (Network) Card with 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g compatibility (Most computer vendors offer wireless network card options when purchasing a PC).
- Updated Anti-virus and Anti-Spyware Software
