Soheil was born in 1972 in Tehran, Iran to an artistic family. He learned to play the setar from his father, Jalal Zolfonoun, who is also a composer and master of Persian classical music. Later Soheil joined the School of Music of Tehran and studied great masters of Persian music, including Ostad Davami and Afsharnia.

Soheil travels extensively throughout the world and has performed in Europe, the United States, Russia, Australia, and Iran.

He is joined by Gordon's own Masoud Nourizadeh, Associate Professor of Art. Masoud studied Persian music with Ostad Manochehr Molaee. Later he became a member of the Art and Literature Institute and performed with the Shiraz Symphony.
