MINORITY ADVISING PROGRAM

MAP: Charting a Course to Your College Success

The Minority Advising Program is an achievement-based program designed to facilitate the transition to college for minority students. The primary initiative of the Minority Advising Program is to foster a more nurturing and inviting environment on campus thereby providing for the success and improving the retention of minority students. The Minority Advising Program provides tutoring and academic counseling/referrals to students who may be experiencing academic difficulties. Most importantly, the Minority Advising Program empowers students with the necessary college skills and the access to resources on campus that will assist them in their academic pursuits. Organizational Meetings

Club U.S.A. is the organization sponsored by MAP. The purpose of the organization is to provide students from a diverse background the opportunity to plan events and activities. Participation in this organization is offered to all students.

Tutoring

The tutoring program is available to all students. This is a free service. The program provides tutoring in the core course areas. Tutorial services are provided by students who are recommended by at least three college professors and have a 3.0 GPA or better. In order to receive tutorial services or to become a tutor, please download, print, and complete the following forms and return them to Academic 103-M or call (770) 358-5096. Academic Counseling and Referral

The purpose of the academic counseling and referral is to provide supplemental academic advisement. In this program, students, especially those who are academically at-risk, are invited via letter or email at least once every semester to academic counseling. In addition, students are referred to resources available on campus, which include Student Counseling sessions, the Tutoring Program, and college skills seminars. Students are referred to supplemental academic counseling and referral by MAP, faculty, and self referral. The following forms are in PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
